Privacy Policy

Last updated June 24, 2026

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run the ledger — your name, email, the loans you record, and the people you invite.
  • We never collect your bank logins or card numbers, because we never touch the money.
  • We don't sell your data. Ever. We share it only with the other person on a loan, the services that help us operate, and where the law requires.
  • You can see, correct, export, or delete your information, and close your account whenever you like.

This summary is a friendly overview; the full policy below is the complete picture.

1Who we are

This policy explains how kin.fund (“Kin,” “we,” “us”) handles personal information when you use kin.fund and related apps (the “Service”). It's written to be read by humans, not just lawyers.

2What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — your name and email address, and a password (stored securely, never in plain text).
  • Loan and fund details — amounts, dates, terms, who's involved, payments logged, confirmations, and any notes or messages you add.
  • People you invite — when you invite someone to a loan, you give us their name and email so we can send the invitation.
  • Payment details for our fees — if you use a paid feature, our payment provider processes your payment; we receive limited billing information, not your full card number.

Information we collect automatically

  • Basic usage and device information (such as IP address, browser type, and how you interact with the Service), used to keep Kin working, secure, and improving.

3What we don't collect

Because Kin never moves money, we never ask for or store your bank login credentials, full card numbers, or account access. The money moves outside Kin, through whatever method you choose. We only hold the record of what you both agree happened.

4How we use your information

  • To run the Service — keep your shared ledger, record confirmations, and show balances.
  • To send reminders and notifications about your loans.
  • To deliver invitations to people you choose to invite.
  • To provide support when you contact us.
  • To keep Kin secure, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
  • To improve the Service.

5How we share it

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited ways:

  • With the other people on your loans. A shared ledger only works if both sides can see it. The other party to a loan sees the relevant details, your confirmations, and your name.
  • With service providers who help us operate (such as hosting, email delivery, and payment processing), under agreements that limit how they may use it.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or Kin.
  • In a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition, in which case we'll let you know.

6People you invite

When you invite someone, we use their email only to deliver your invitation and any directly related reminders. If they don't join, we don't use their details for anything else. Please invite only people who would expect to hear from you about a loan.

7Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how Kin is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; some features may not work properly without them.

8Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterwards only as long as reasonably necessary for legal, security, or record-keeping reasons. You can delete your data or close your account at any time; when you do, we remove or anonymize your information, except where we're required to keep some of it. Note that records tied to a shared loan may remain visible to the other party as part of their record.

9How we protect it

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and secure storage of credentials. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.

10Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can do much of this from your account settings, or by writing to privacy@kin.fund. We won't charge you for exercising these rights or treat you differently for doing so.

11International users

Kin may process and store information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we take steps to ensure your information receives an appropriate level of protection when it's transferred.

12Children

Kin is for adults. It isn't intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll remove it.

13Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kin evolves. If we make material changes, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know, and the “last updated” date above will change.
